Now I dont know the full facts about this as M-in Law was telling me the story and she did not stop talking for h=me to ask questions.
M-i-L has been selling her Aberdeen Angus to Waitrose and Marks and Spencer.
They pick the cattle, about 30 up at on a Sunday for Monday deliver.
M-i-L then gets a call from the supermarket on the Monday to say the price per KG has dropped to day and we will be paying you less.
I did tell here to ask for them to send the cattle back and she will pay the haulage.
Has this happened to any one before and what is the best thing to do?
Thanks.

Shirley they go through an agent or dealers hands first, thats what happens round here, price is usually known before collection. :?

I dont know if they go thought a dealer or not, Waitrose have been out and looked at the stock.
Price is fixed before sale, but at delivery the price drops.
Think I need to go back and ask some more.

Cattle prices are rising, I think they have selected her as an easy target to get themselves some cheaper beef. Lawyers letter first thing in the morning methinks.

Surely there is a mechanism they use to price it? It will probably be linked to some auction results or similar at a guess. If so then fair enough, if they are just making up figures then that's naughty. Check her contract, it will be in there somewhere.
