Saw a field of winter barley at Fulbourn which had been started. Probably rained off, if the weather around here is anything to go by at the moment.

Anywhere else???

Lincolnshire early last week about 30 acres of barley.
The rest I've seen is still green in the tramlines.

Without any Winter Barley it's doubtful that the combine will roll before August over here. Osr was only sprayed yesterday.

The winter barley adjoining us should be combined tomorrow (i.e. Sunday 16th). It's been completely brown, including tramlines and under trees, for about 3 weeks.

Saw a field of oilseed rape hacked down today.

A lot of what winter barley there is looks on the point of being ready.

A few days sun and warm weather will make a difference, and hopefully add a little protein to the wheat!!

Plenty of action tomorrow I reckon. W barley round here looks fit and starting it hit the deck after a veritable battering in recent days/weeks.
Osr very variable. Some looks very dead, but still lots of green. Won't be a vintage osr year I don't believe.
Wheats vary from pretty good to down right terrible. Plenty of yellow rust in crops near framlingham - looks as though whole fields are beginning to die off. Black grass in virtually every field I have seen, including fields where they only grow 1st wheat (late drilled wheat after beet seems especially bad)

Just sprayed off my WB, some of it was probably ready now, but plenty of green bits left, good looking crops though.

The messages I'm receiving suggest that 3t/Ha is the typical OSR yield. Small seeds. Nothing record breaking.

W barley locally seems to be doing 6 t/ha at 13 or 14% moisture. Specific weights about 59 kg/hl and high screenings. Not good at all.

I think it's a bit better than that here, but we're on very heavy clay, and it's certainly not wonderful. My immediate neighbour (whose farm completely surrounds my smallholding) has no rape this year, and with the WB done there'll probably be a short break before anything else is ready. His new combine (Lesbian 750) is noticeably faster to clear a field than the previous one (another lesbian, about 6 years old), and from the onlooker's point of view, noticeably quieter.

Also noticeable is the pile of garbage retreived from one field in front of the combine - a whole pikeymobile full.

Oilseed Rape now being done around here. Agree with Raggy from what I've heard. Small seeds, and not a particularly good crop.

Probably too cold and too much rain at the vital time. Haven't heard any news about winter barley. So little of it grown around here, I'm not that surprised.

It will be interesting to see how the wheat's run when a start is made.

Mine looks about a couple or even three weeks away as yet.

Spring barley looks well, but only time will tell.............
